Helena slumped into her chair. She was reeling from her 'date' with Jacky, she didn't know exactly what to think. She stared at the crystal "paper weight" onthe desk, and thought of deystroying it,smashingitagainst a wall. But then, she would know, and Helena would die.
She started onher mountain of paperwork, and the horrible task of deciding what Cosette would want to know. She sighed. If she was a drinker, she would pour one right then and there. She wished she copuld tell someone, Sirius or Remus wouldunderstand and try to help, she knew. Helena's thoughts went toDumbledore,he would know what to do, but alas the man was dead, and Helena had no way out.
She only wanted someone to understand her.

was dressed in his normal red attire with his chest barely showing and walked into the Daily Prophet. He had been gone on research related details and had just gotten back last night. For weeks he had been working on a column for his section but it required him to do more research into the dark lord's rise and fall. It had taken weeks of searching to find any sort of ritual so dark as to bring someone back to life and there was really only three ways it could have been done. He knew that his family patriarch, Herpo the Foul, was known to be the first to ever successfully create what was known as a horcurx which could keep part of your soul alive even after your body was gone and there for could cheat death. There was a potion that could be used, but that required so many ingredients from living and dead humans that it was almost impossible to fathom it being done. The last wasn't necessarily evil but it was dark if the dark lord himself got a hold of it. The Sorcerer's Stone could have been used to keep Voldemort alive all these years. Hogwash in Oberon's opinion. He was a firm believer now that Voldemort had used Oberon's family's dark magic to create a horcurx and then used the potion to come back to life. There had been no wonder in his mind now that that was the reason that Riddle looked so inhuman. So he wrote up his column stating how he believed Riddle came back and left out the horcurx part. If someone wanted the dark lord to return, they would only have to find one of those damned things and Oberon didn't want him back so quickly. Let the bastard rot in hell for a few years. Oberon added a bit of how to repel some of the more advanced dark magic from one's home so that they wouldn't be effected if they had any dark artifacts in their homes or possessions and then finished it up. He grabbed the parchment with the column on it and headed toward his editor's office. Ignoring the polite way and knocking, Oberon walked in and placed it in a basket. He looked up to find that this wasn't his editor. At least, it hadn't been before. He knew something was up because he felt he knew the woman but he couldn't place how. Extending his hand he said, "Hello. The name's Oberon,Ancient magic research Columnist. Nice to meet you. Do I know you somehow?"[/ul]

Helena was used to people barging into her office - but now she was wary. Jacky could come in and kill her at any moment, and she didn't know just how powerful the crystal was. But it wasn't her, thank Merlin. It was him. Oberon. Her first love. It was a funny thing about first loves, one never forgets them. It had been a good twenty odd years since they were forced to break up, so she had forgotten exactly what he looked like. But she would never forget what he made her feel.
He had gotten - handsome, and Helena was taken aback, also becuase he didn't seem to recognize her. Fair enough. When she left him, she was a spindly shy sixteen year old. Now, she was a shy woman, trying not to die at the hands of the Death Eaters, Les Feux, or anyone else who may have had a reason to kill the editor of current affairs.
She stood and shook his hand. "Helena Clair. Editor of Current Affairs. We were in the same year at Hogwarts."
Shw asn't going to say more. He would figure it out, soon enough. But Helena didn't know of she was ready to face all of the emotions she had quelled for him for that last 22 years.

Oberon said. "But a lot happened to both me and my family during my stay at Hogwarts and so my memories of those students and seven years have fled my thoughts. I seem to recall your name but I can't seem to put it with a face. Forgive me of course, but your name seems rather important to me but I can't seem to recall just why. Is there a reason for this or am I just being paranoid?" Oberon added with a friendly smile to show he was playing with her jokingly but that he still wanted an answer. [/ul]

Helena smiled to cover her dissapointment and feelings of failure. He didn't remember her. So, he had forgotten. She had meant less to him that he did to her. But was she in the Order of the Phoenix, or wasn't she?" She tried to decided the best way to remind him. She grabbed a stack of files and went to the cabinent. Sometimes she preferred to do things the muggle way, it calmed her and reminded her of ehr mum. Her first instinct was to draw into herself and shut it all out. But he was here, and it was a second chance.
She decided to remind him straigh out, instead of beating around the bush about it. "We - were together, for a while, 5th year. My parents - made us part." She was flushing at that point, but soldiered on. "I - I never forgot you, Oberon."
It was true. Oh, he wasn't on her mind all the time, but sometimes, when she saw a chocolate cauldron, oh heard something that reminded her of that year, her thoughts went to Oberon. It was the last time she felt happy with someone, and that is not easily forgotten.

Oberon said, his head bowing in regret. "Please forgive me Helena. I never meant for that to happen. I would never have let your family separate us if it wasn't for the simple fact that my family was killed during the same year. Looking back though, I don't blame your folks. Son of death eaters and descended from such a long line of dark wizards, I wouldn't want my daughter around such a boy either. However, I'm not that guy. I'll never be that guy. I'm just sorry that that had to happen. Maybe one day..." Oberon couldn't bring himself to finish his sentence. It was bad enough that he had to relive his family's death, but now. looking into the sorrow filled eyes of one of the only witches he'd ever came close to loving. he relived that pain as well. He remembered just wanting to die when he got the news of his folk's death and then her family forbidding her from seeing him. Pilling it all together back then had made him just wish for death. This was the Oberon she remembered. The kind one, the boy that wanted to break his family's mold, the boy that taught her how to love. Of course he was hardly a boy now, and she was hardly a girl. Then why did she feel like she was suddenly sixteen again?
What did she do now? She decided the safest thing would be stand up and go to him, even if that closeness would lead to - well, she wasn't going to think of that right then. She was releived that he had not sunk into the Slytherin way, that he was- well, still that boy in many ways.
"Yes, maybe one day -" Helena stopped, and it all came out. The past, the horrible breakup, the estrangement, and now her deal with the devil in Jacky, she buried her face in his chest and cried. She cried for a good minute or two, and looked up at him. "I - I'm sorry, its just - I need someone -"

There, he'd said it, and he felt like an idiot as soon as the words left his mouth. How could he promise her that? He was gone because of his job months out of the year, let alone his individual research on his family and their magic. How could he ever hope to keep that promise? Curse it. Oberon just knew he had to be a Gryffindor now. Speaking before thinking was what they were good at. Oh well, he'd said it and he knew deep down that he meant it. He'd left her once, he wouldn't do it again. "So what's going on?" Oberon said, pulling her back from him and looking deep into her eyes. "I remember how you acted when you were little and you never broke down like this unless you were under a lot of pressure and scared. IS there anything I can do to help?"

Helena relaxed in her former lover's arms. It just felt - right. She needed some smeblence of normalcy, what with all that was going on . But the worst part was, she couldn't tell him about Jacky. She would surely die if she did. But he was there, and he would be there. He was hers again, and that made Helena feel a little safer.
Helena was a horrible liar. But she had a go with it. "I - work is hard, and the ministry is falling apart- I -" she knew she had said too much. "I - really can't talk about it."
She lenaed back into his chest, gld for the warm feeling he gave her. A sense of home, of security. "I'm glad you're back, Oberon." In a bold move for her, Helena leand up and kissed him.
