Remus Lupin is a man who can be described as mild mannered in every sense of the word. He is calm, compassionate, and someone that everyone seems to like because of these qualities. He is also a man who knows his way around defensive spells, something that came in handy when he was teaching at Hogwarts.
He is however, a man with pride, a gryffindor at heart. He will avoid his problems to make sure that he doesn't bring out his wild side, the wolf that live inside of him. He is always afraid that he will act on his werewolf's motives and do something to hurt someone.

Lupin's father was a man who knew many werewolfs and fought for their equality. But when a court case about a man named Greyback came to him about a Rape he committed, Frances refused to represent him, Ferrir Greyback decided to get back at Frances in the worst form, towards his son, Remus. Remus was six years old when Ferrir Greyback attacked him and turned him into a werewolf. Frances mourned for his son but didn't know what else to do.
Remus didn't have many friends because of his condition until Dumbledore allowed him to attend Hogwarts despite his monthly problem. This is where Remus met his best friends and became 1/4 of the Marauders. The happiest years of his life, the four graduated with the Dark mark looming over their heads. So they were all quick to join the Order.
When James and Lily died, Remus mourned their death and spent 12 years going from job to job, having to leave when it got around that he was a werewolf. Dumbledore offered him a job as Defense against Dark arts professor and Lupin loved his job, finally finding some roots, until someone found out about his 'condition'
