Nellie couldn't keep it together anymore. She laughed out loud. Apollo had a good six inches on her daughter anyway, and he wasn't scared of her by any means, but it was an absolute hilarious sight to see her daughter threaten her lover, and then introduce herself as if they were at afternoon tea.
Apollo's quips were legendary, and he was possibly the most sarcastic man she had ever met, after Snape, of course. But at least no one had been hexed - yet. Nellie could take care of herself, and she knew Mari knew that, but it was still sweet to see that Mari wanted to fight for her.
She sidled up to Apollo, very careful not to touch him too much, mostly for Mari's sake.
"I am sure you can protect us from any and all cray red-head hating aunts, love." She pecked him lightly on the cheek and turned to Mari. "Alright, now that we've gotten all that out of the way, have you eaten anything?"

Apollo smiled and said, "Of course I could. I fear that she's a mixture of Minnie's dry wit and my assertive action." Apollo walked behind Nellie on his way toward the kitchen and bent over her left shoulder and gave her a kiss on the cheek smiling. "However, I'll do my best to vanquish the beast. Happy hunting and all that." Apollo then walked into the kitchen for some coffee. It had been a cold day already and he could just tell he was going to get some cold shoulder from little miss fire ball. He poured his coffee black and took a deep whiff of the brew before drinking half the cup with as much dignity as one could while chugging coffee.
He charmed two other cups to fly behind him on his way back into the room, full of coffee, while carrying his own. He gave his signature innocent smile and asked, "Coffee anyone?"

Mari narrowed her eyes and held her tongue. She wanted to give him a proper verbal lashing, but she held back for her mum's sake. Instead she gave a false chuckle at his joke and made a note to tell Mildred about Aunty Constance the Ginger Slayer for the article. When Nellie and Artemis started acting all lovey Mari had to fight the sarcastic gagging motion she wanted to make and turned instead to the table still stacked with breakfast goodies. "No, that's why I came over. I had a hankering for one of your delicious scones. Now I'm here though I think I can make do with some of what's already out." she gave her mother a pleasant smile.
Artemis left the room and returned trailing coffee. He himself was practically chugging the stuff. "A coffee drinker? That's rare in Britain." she commented, taking a mug when it floated to her. "Can't be all bad..." she muttered, sipping the hot black liquid and waiting for it to kick into action. "Thanks." she added, scooping some bacon and eggs onto a plate and digging in. "This tastes lovely mum."
A false pleasant smile drifted over her face and she gestured for Artemis and Nellie to join her. "So... How long have the two of you been going out?" she began her line of questioning. They had kept her out of the loop, and now she intended upon getting back up to speed, probably in the most awkward way she could think of. They deserved a bit of awkwardness for keeping this from her anyway.

Elinor served Mari some breakfast, and sat down, preparing for the awkwardness. It came soon enough, becuase Elinor almost choked on her coffee. She and Apollo hadn't been 'going out' really at all - they had been shagging. And he had been in town for, what, two days? It wasn't even enough to consider a date. Usually, people went out to eat, then came home for fun. Apollo and Elinor had skipped that step, and hopped into bed.
Did their history count as dating? Elinor decided it didn't and couldn't lie to her daughter. But she wasn't going to tell the whole truth either - at least not yet.
"Not very long at all, actually." Because 18 hours is such a long time she thought.
This was a pickle, but Nellie knew it would work out, she had the two people she loved most in the world here with her, it had to work out, somehow.

Mari let her focus shift from Apollo to her mother. Narrowing her eyes suspiciously, she asked "How long is 'not long at all'?" She watched her mother fidget in her seat and her jaw dropped. "You had a one night stand! Didn't you!" she felt her cheeks flame red even as she said it. She couldn't believe it, her mum was a slut. Okay, maybe not a slut, but she was apparently easy. Maybe that wasn't fair, but until she got the God awful image of her mum going at it with Apollo, she was going to consider her accusations justified.
Shuddering as she swallowed down the awkwardness of her own mother having a lover, she fixed her eyes back on Apollo. The man was still standing halfway between the table and the door, like he couldn't wait to bolt and was still there by will power alone. "Sit," she demanded, then softened it with a "Please. I'd like to learna bit about the man thats shagging my mum." she muttered the last bit, but she knew they could hear it. She was normally much better behaved, but finding out that her mum was running about shagging men at random had thrown her for a loop or two. Maybe the men weren't that random, maybe there was only this one man, but it was still disheartening that she hadn't even mentioned she was ready to move on. "So, Apollo, you still a traveling poet?" She tried for polite, but she knew that some irritation slipped into her voice. She wanted to be a poet, but she'd be damned if she'd let him know that.
